Jimmie Durham in conversation with Hou Hanru

Carlo Scarpa Hall – 10 individual seats reserved for myMAXXI cardholders writing to mymaxxi@fondazionemaxxi.it by the day before the event

Durham overturns clichés and status symbols, opening to other and alternative visions, not always – almost never in fact – corresponding to those of the dominant cultural thinking.

A special encounter between one of the protagonists of the exhibition “della materia spirituale dell’arte” and career Leone d’Oro winner at the 58th Venice Biennale, Jimmie Durham and MAXXI’s Artistic Director Hou Hanru.

As well as an artist, Jimmie Durham is also an essayist, poet and political activist. His artistic research is based on the critical analysis and deconstruction of the founding concepts and symbols of western culture. Through diverse materials (stone above all) and artistic idioms (installation, sculpture, video and writing), Durham overturns clichés and status symbols, opening to other and alternative visions, not always – almost never in fact – corresponding to those of the dominant cultural thinking.
