This focus is dedicated to the Nanda Lanfranco Archive, whose entire collection was loaned to MAXXI in 2024 at the request of her heirs. Through a thematic and chronological journey, the display traces the professional and artistic career of the Ligurian photographer, from her early days in Genoa in the 1970s – when she began to move in art circles following her meeting with Germano Celant and her first collaboration with Ida Gianelli’s Samangallery – right up to her work in the 2000s.
Whilst always keeping a low profile, Nanda Lanfranco documented crucial research and events on the international art scene, building an extraordinary archive that intertwines her professional work with refined personal exploration.
The project will involve the MLAC – Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea at Sapienza University of Rome, where the focus will be on exhibiting the themes of the body and performance art – subjects central to her interests both in documentary photography and in her artistic practice.
