Inspired by the true story of a serial killer who murdered 16 prostitutes in the holy city of Mashhad, the film centres on a young reporter (Zar Amir Ebrahimi: Palme d’Or at Cannes) who, in the face of hostility and contempt from officials and police officers, is stubbornly determined to track down the monster by disguising herself as bait. The excellent acting, the neorealist settings, direction and writing that never lack tension are the hallmarks of the finest Iranian cinema. This Persian noir thriller, a ruthless metaphor for a country condemned by fanaticism to violence, is a splendid confirmation of this.

The film will be preceded by a conversation between Cecilia Sala and Mario Sesti and the screening of a video essay titled È la stampa bellezza! – V.
