Farrell, David
David Farrell was born in Dublin, where he lives and works, in 1961.
He has worked as a freelance photographer since 1990, after obtaining a PhD in chemistry in 1987. He has worked on independent projects with his companion Gogo della Luna (Gudók). In 2001 he won the prestigious European Publishers Award for Photography with his first personal exhibition named Innocent Landscape: a series of photographs carried out at the Sites of the Disappeared, namely the places where nine young people were killed and “secretly buried” by the IRA between the ‘70s and the beginning of the ‘80s. In 2004 he participated in the European Eyes in Japan project. He realized the Crow video that was awarded during the Composers Choice Festival al National Concert Hall of Dublin with composer Benjamin Dwyer. Recently he has exhibited at the Rome FotoFestival and at the Houston FotoFest of 2006. Donald Taylor Black (Poolbeg Productions) is currently shooting a documentary on him. “His second book Neither near, not far away. In Lugo” is currently being published. He teaches photography at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Tecnology.
