CINEMA at MAXXI is back!

25 January – 29 March 2017

curated by Mario Sesti
coordination by Alessandra Fontemaggi

One of the shining lights of high quality film programming in the capital, it was born as an experiment and has transformed into an innovative and original contemporary event in itself. Cinema at MAXXI is back with a multitude of new features and a schedule that is neither a simple film season nor a traditional festival but something that combines diverse traits from both.

The proposals for this edition:

EXTRAmajor previews
Prestigious previews of the most illustrious productions, from the most important distributors, from all over the world, for the most part in the original language with subtitles. A sparkling programme of eagerly awaited films, auteur works, inventions and surprises: to all intents and purposes a festival.

EXHIBITexhibitions and film
Three masterpieces by Yasujiro Ozu, one of the most influential Japanese filmmakers (one of which accompanied by a live orchestra), and a careful selection of films and documentaries link the film programming to the exhibitions The Japanese House and Please Come Back currently showing at MAXXI.

MAXXI DOC new documentary talents
Biographies, theatre lessons, audio-video investigations – in collaboration with Istituto Luce Cinecittà a selection from a genre that has seen new talents emerge to a greater extent than in traditional film.

SHORTSLEAGUE the best Italian short films
The best of recent Italian short films, selected by Roma Creative Contest and arriving from festivals and authoritative prizes, compete in a championship to the last film standing to find the bets loved short film ever with the 2017 Shortsleague prize.

ALICE FAMILY animation and more
In collaboration with Alice nelle città, a programme of titles for the very young – or for adults accompanied by children – that explores the best of children’s film from around the world. Now a classic Cinema at MAXXI feature.
