The winner of the second edition of the Italian Contemporary Art Prize will be announced today. The four finalists – Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Patrizio di Massimo, Adrian Paci and Luca Trevisani – have each presented a work conceived specifically for the museum spaces and on show at MAXXI through to 20 May 2012.
Franca Sozzani, director of Vogue Italia, will be presenting the prize.
The winner will be the subject of a monographic catalogue of his entire oeuvre.
GIORGIO ANDREOTTA CALO’
Motivation of the jury: Giorgio Andreotta Calò wins “for the synthesis between individual experience and the ties with the architectural space and the urban space provoked by his work. The work reactivates the museum’s relationship with the city and, in the case of MAXXI in particular, absorbs the image of the city within itself as a metaphor for the reciprocal relationship of responsibility between the institution and the nation.”
The jury of the 2012 Italian Contemporary Art Prize, coordinated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, is composed of Elena Filipovic, curator at WIELS Contemporary Art Center (Brussels); Udo Kittelmann, director of the Staatliche Museen (Berlin); Anna Mattirolo, director of MAXXI Arte; Jessica Morgan, the Daskalopoulos Curator at the Tate Modern (London) and Luigi Ontani, artist.
