An artistic and scientific exploration of Rome’s sonic identity during the 2025 Jubilee, experienced through the artist’s Electrical Walks.
Using special electromagnetic induction headphones, participants can hear the hidden sounds produced by electrical devices and infrastructure in the area near the four papal basilicas of Rome (St. John Lateran, St. Peter’s in the Vatican, Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Paul Outside the Walls).
Blending sound art, acoustic ecology, and technology, the experience encourages reflection on how urban electrification and large-scale tourism shape the city’s evolving soundscape. It promotes active listening and supports a more sustainable, mindful engagement with cultural heritage — including its acoustic dimension.
The project is promoted by Kappabit, in collaboration with the LAT Art and Technology Laboratory – Department of Literary, Philosophical and Art History Studies at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata,” and with the support of the Center of Excellence of the Cultural Technology District of Regione Lazio. The scientific director of the project is Giulio Latini (University of Rome “Tor Vergata”).
MAXXI is a project partner together with Deutsche Akademie Rom Villa Massimo, Filosofia in Movimento, Goethe-Institut Rom, RAM radioartemobile, Zerynthia Associazione per l’Arte Contemporanea OdV, Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival
