Carlo Scarpa Hall – free entrance until full capacity
Amatrice, August 2016, magnitude 6 on the Richter scale: the city has been living in another way ever since.
“That night – at 3.36 am – I was there with my husband, my daughter and my dog. The tremor, the fear, the escape, our home damaged and then brought down completely, along with all affections and certainties of an entire life spent in Poggio Vitellino, one of the municipality of Amatrice’s 69 districts; home to around twenty souls in winter, ten times more in summer, an oasis lost forever. We were saved, but our salvation looks like another reality.“.
Amatrice is no more. But it still lives, by Elena Polidori and published by Neri Pozza, tries to recall the previous reality, more real than that of the debris, questioning that “forever”, finding no answers in post-traumatic therapy, shows of solidarity or the hope for rebuilding. That answer rests in the memories that surround, caress and cross what is no longer there.
