MAXXI turns 15!celebrate the Museum's birthday with us
Summer is back in the Museum’s Piazza: experience it in all its shapes!
When a socio-political system dissolves and is replaced by another, we regularly observe a phenomenon called vanishing mediator: the disintegration of the old system is not directly motivated by the new one but by a set of more radical ideologies and artistic practices which disappear from view once the new system establishes itself.
The exemplary case of this disappearance of the vanishing mediators is the disintegration of Yugoslavia: the moving force of the protests that undercut the old regime from within were punk music, Leftist critical forces, etc., and all these phenomena are ignored now when the nationalists are writing new history. It is our duty to keep the memory of this era alive.
