What are the stories and the anecdotes that lie behind a photo?
A series of seminars in which the great protagonists of contemporary Italian photography reveal the work that lies behind a painstakingly composed photo or one captured in the blink of an eye.
In the first seminar we meet Letizia Battaglia, who’s work has always been distinguished by her passionate social and political commitment, in conversation with Margherita Guccione and Bartolomeo Pietromarchi. For 30 years, Battaglia has photographed her homeland, Sicily, with raw, painful images denouncing the activities of the mafia in courageous and incisive reportages for the newspaper L’Ora of Palermo.
“I’m not the ‘Battaglia against the mafia’, I photograph other things too; the homicides are only one part of the city“. Letizia Battaglia
Convinced of the validity of social commitment as a factor of change, over the course of the years she has put her talent and passion at the service of diverse causes: from women’s issues to environmental problems and the rights of prisoners, as a photographer, director, publisher and environmentalist (she has been a councillors, assessor and member of the regional parliament).
