In parallel, seminar cycles, screenings and concerts have been organized, stimulating reflection on the role of culture today and in a dialogue with the city and its history.

THE INDEPENDENT is a research project focusing on the identification and promotion of independent spaces and thinking; it is the manifesto that MAXXI has chosen to use to extend the confines of the museum institution, investigate the contemporary and encourage the culture “of difference”. The project explores the contents of the most innovative expressive forces, monitors the growth of independent spaces present in Italy in and elsewhere, spreads critical and independent thinking, offers a space for the sharing of contemporary experience and investigates the research directions of non-institutional channels.
