Olivo Barbieri
MAXXI Auditorium, free admittance
An Italian photographer and artist, Barbieri’s fame is associated with a highly original representational technique that renders metropolitan landscapes as miniature cities. Ever attentive to the constructional mutations of contemporaneity and the relationship between reality and virtuality, he draws of the concept of the avatar, the physical representation of a subject within a virtual world: an entire city can be a representation of itself. OIivo Barbieri participated in the Venice Biennale in 1993, 1995 and 1997 and numerous international events devoted to the visual arts, exhibiting in major spaces such as the Folkwang Museum in Essen and MART in Rovereto.
