A new exhibition space containing material selected from the Incontri Internazionali d’Arte archive has been created for The Place To Be, namely the new set-up of the MAXXI permanent collection.
A collection of documents from the Archivio Incontri Internazionali d’Arte collection
The itinerary exhibits this archive for the first time, thereby enabling the consultation of hundreds of digitalised documents and turning a private space into a place where memories are shared.
Thousands of documents, photos, audio and video recordings constitute a fundamental resource for the historical and critical reconstruction of the last decades
For this important event, the archive presents material showing the association’s first years of activity, from 1970 to 1981. That art season, which was enlivened by critic Achille Bonito Oliva, was fundamental for the artistic development of the following years.
The Incontri Internazionali d’Arte association was founded in Rome by Graziella Lonardi Buontempo, who started working in 1970 by promoting contemporary creativity and thus became a point of reference for the artistic community, enabling it to discuss and develop. 2012 saw Gabriella Buontempo, namely the founder’s niece, donate the association’s archive to the MAXXI.
