Sunday 29 January, 11.30
Museum Piazza
a project curated by the MAXXI Education Department
in collaboration with the Didactic Service of MNAO – The “Giuseppe Tucci” National Museum of Easter Art and the cultural association Vidya – Asian Arts and Cultures
On the occasion of the closing of Indian Highway, the great collective exhibition of Indian contemporary art that recounts the Indian subcontinents breakneck race towards the future through 60 works by 30 artists, the MAXXI piazza will be animated by the myriad colours and sounds of the INDIAN DANCE OPEN DAY to which all MAXXI visitors are invited.
On Sunday 29 January at 11.30 A.M. through to 13.30, the teachers Marialuisa Sale and Ambili Abraham, together with their students, will animate the event as they present respectively the Bharatanatyam national dance and Bollywood dance. Dance will therefore become the lingua franca of intercultural communication and exchange.
The encounter on the 29th of January is the last event in a project that has involved the two museums and within which the comparison between classic and contemporary Indian art has been an instrument for the understanding of different traditions and customs: in the presence of cultural mediators, the families of the Flaminio and Esquilino quarters, together with those of the Indian subcontinent resident in Rome, visited the Museum of Eastern Art collections and then the exhibition on Indian contemporary art at MAXXI over two weekends (the 14th and 15th of January and the 21st and 22nd of January 2012).
