Fernando e Humberto Campana
MAXXI Auditorium, free admittance
Among the most famous contemporary designers, the Campanas are known for their furniture derived from the use of waste materials such as cardboard, string, plastic tubes, leather and metal wire. As they say themselves: “our objects are born out of the street, out of the kitsch atmospheres of the popular quarters of the Brazilian cities and out of contact with nature.” Experimenting with a wide range of expressive media ranging from waste material found in the favelas to natural products from the Amazon forests, the Campana brothers give rise to brilliantly coloured objects suspended between innovation and tradition. Their works have been presented in important museum such as Palazzo Reale in Milan, the Museum of Modern Art in Bahia and the Museum of Modern Art in Tel Aviv.
