A seminar investigating the work of the great Spanish artist and presenting the new phase of his project Media Sites/Media Monuments
The work of Antoni Muntadas tackles social and political issues and questions of communication such as the relationship between public and private space with the social structure, and analyses the channels of information and the way in which they can be used to censor or disseminate ideas. For the presentation of his projects the artist uses diverse media such as photography, video, publications, the Internet, installations and urban interventions.
On the occasion of this seminar Muntadas is presenting Media Sites/Media Monuments Roma, the latest stage in a long-standing project initiated in Washington D.C in 1982 and continued in Budapest in 1998 and in Buenos Aires in 2007. Media Sites/Media Monuments is a project dealing with the media, memory, silence and the void. A metaphor for how the media create the “monument” of an event while also causing its oblivion.
