“9 October is my birthday, and that is precisely the date the MAXXI chose to ask me to give a talk to mark my exhibition “Matrimoni, Rotture e Funerali inclusi”.
I turned them down, before realising that I hardly knew anyone in Rome and that I risked spending the evening on my own. So I changed my mind.
I suggested to the museum that, instead of an admission ticket, they ask every visitor to bring a birthday present of any kind.
Admission is by payment, but in the form of a gift.
If there are ten people in the audience, I shall have the pleasure of opening your ten presents during the lecture.
If the approximately 210 seats are filled, I’ll choose a few at random.
We expect that all the gifts – or some of them, depending on their size and nature – will be displayed a few days later, at the exhibition opening. Unwrapped or wrapped? In the form of a list? For how long? To create a new work?
WE’LL SEE!”
seats reserved for myMAXXI cardholders by writing to mymaxxi@fondazionemaxxi.it, by the day before the event
