Based on an idea by Lucia Bosso / BasedArchitecture
In collaboration with the Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti
To what extant can architecture be understood from a photograph? How much do we know about and how much are we unaware of regarding a project based on a photographic image?
During this series we shall be meeting some of the most interesting contemporary Italian practitioners – an architect and a photographer – who have proved capable of creating a building, a significant place for the territory and the community, and to interpret it photographically, amplifying perception of it and its underlying meanings.
Five seminars exploring the symbiotic relationship between architecture, its designer and the photographer who portrays it
In the final seminar the Labics studio will be meeting the photographer Marco Cappelletti. Moderated by Marco Brizzi.
The Labics architectural and town planning studio was founded in Rome in 2002 by Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori. The name expresses the idea of a laboratory, fertile terrain for the nurturing of ideas. Bringing together theoretical research and applied experimentation, the studio’s field of interest extends from urban planning through to the design of interior spaces, thus spanning the full gramut of design scales and complexities.
As well as being a recurrent theme in its design research, Labics’ interest in the relationship between the city and public space has led the theoretical research regarding the city of Rome entitled Borderline Metropolis, presented at the 11th Venice Biennale. In recent years, Labics has received various international prizes and awards and has been candidate for the Mies van der Rohe Awards with both the MAST and Città del Sole projects.
Marco Cappelletti, born in 1987, grew up in the province of Como and now divides his time between Milan and Venice. Through to 2011 he studied and worked in the field of precision mechanics. He was awarded a diploma in photography from the CFP Bauer of Milan in 2013. Fascinated by the way in which architecture influences and determines human life, he decided to work in the filed, documenting the projects of various studios. Thanks to his collaboration with the DSL Studio, of which he has been a partner since 2015, he also began photographing for the world of Art and Design. He has worked with some of the most influential artists and architects on the contemporary scene.
