The talk details the work of the artistic duo, who reflect on the recent proliferation of the Metaverse by proposing a civic approach to virtual urbanism..
According to the architects, the immersive Internet, that of the Metaverse, should not depend on for-profit forms of private ownership. It should be built and managed collectively to deal with issues concerning immersive online environments, such as teleportation, navigation, bookmarking, tracking and privacy.
Lara Lesmes and Fredrik Hellberg, founders of the architecture and art studio Space Popular and protagonists of the fifth edition of the MAXXI Alcantara / Studio Visit programme, have chosen to reflect on the contemporary virtual city starting with the work of Aldo Rossi, a master of 20th-century Italian architecture.
