books at MAXXINelle vene di Bruxellesby Paolo Valentino
After the Chronicle of an assassination foretold exhibition at MAXXI in 2016, the Israeli director returns to his relationship with Yitzhak Rabin, the Prime Minister of Israel who won the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize.
On 4 November 1995, Rabin was assassinated in Jerusalem by an extremist Jewish settler, an event that marked his life and shattered the balance of the Middle East. In his 1996 film The Arena of Murder, Amos Gitai narrated the drama he and the whole of Israel experienced that day.
But that film was only the first step in a broader and more varied process, a story that combines diary, archive and fiction, becoming over time a multifaceted work. The book that is the protagonist of the dialogue, rich in images, contributions and important testimonies, gathers the gaze of one of the most important contemporary artists on an absolute protagonist of the 20th century.
