Three meetings to retrace the activity of one of the greatest photographers of our time.
On the occasion of the third set-up of the Archive Wall space, the exhibition area dedicated to the enhancement of contemporary world archives, with a focus on Elisabetta Catalano’s artistic production, MAXXI organises three meetings that retrace the activity of one of the greatest photographers of our time.
Through the words of scholars, sector experts, photographers, artists, and protagonists of the art scene of those years, the three meetings will analyse the beginnings and development of her work, her relationship with the photographers of her generation, and her work as a portrait photographer. Particular attention will be given to the work on performances and to the various ways to document it.
Auteur Portraits
That portrayed by Elisabetta Catalano is a society of artistic and cultural production, made up of artists, intellectuals, poets and works reflected in their faces. The portrait of a free community of thinking and creation, where the shooting method is not detached sociological vision, but participation and sharing of creative processes.
Artists like Lawrence Weiner, Gilbert & George, Alighiero Boetti, Mario Merz, Pino Pascali, Joseph Kosuth, Gino De Dominicis, Jannis Kounellis, Fabio Mauri, Mimmo Rotella, Enrico Castellani but also intellectuals like Furio Colombo, Alberto Moravia, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Valerio Magrelli, all have been immortalised by Elisabetta Catalano’s camera, capable of revealing a remarkable psychological intuition that captures the interiority of the person portrayed.
The meeting will also be the occasion to present the catalogue of the exhibition, a study tool necessary to frame Elisabetta Catalano’s work starting from her relationship with the artists selected for the exhibition in the Museum’s Wall Archive, which examines four emblematic performances.
