Diller Scofidio + Renfro: Architecture after Images
by Edward Dimendberg
This may be considered as the first in-depth examination of one of the most creative contemporary design studios. From their debut in 1979, Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio have integrated architecture, planning, media art and performance art in a surprising variety of projects that comprise performance, installations and books as well as building and public spaces.
Questioning the nature of space and the vision of contemporary culture, Elizabeth Diller, Riccardo Scofido and Charles Renfro have realised surprising projects that range from New York’s High Line to the artificial cloud of Blur and the Boston Institute for Contemporary Art.
Las Vegas in the Rearview Mirror. The City in Theory, Photography, and Film
by Martino Stierli
With the fundamental text Learning from Las Vegas, Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown and Steven Izenour documented the post-war dispersion of the American city, perceived from a moving car. In his book Martino Stierli examines this cinematic methodology, contrasting it with contemporary photography and pop and conceptual art, in particular the work of Ed Ruscha and Stephen Shore, considering Los Angeles as the cultural, urban and architectural centre of the period.
