A seminar exploring design activity that focuses on the relationships between individuals. Community and environment
The latest seminar in the #LightOn series curated by iGuzzini and MAXXI: this time we shall be meeting Jeanne Gang, the American architect, winner of the MacArthur Fellow Programme and founder of the Studio Gang.
The integration of conventional materials, suggestive but functional design and sustainable technologies in audacious structures challenging the aesthetic and technical possibilities of form are the characteristic features of Jeanne Gang’s projects. The aim of her architecture is to provide an appropriate response to the specific geographic, environmental and above all social context. The issue of community is tied up with the concept of architecture that exercises attraction while at the same time managing to create a dimension of intimacy amongst the inhabitants, reproducing domestic environments in the public sphere.
He most important and most representative works include the Writers Theatre in Glencoe (Illinois), the Campus North Residential Commons of the University of Chicago, the Solar Carve Tower (New York), the Aqua skyscraper (Illinois), the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership (Michigan) and the American Museum of Natural History extension (New York).
In collaboration with American Academy in Rome.
Jeanne Gang is the Resident in Architecture at the American Academy in Rome for the 2017 season.
*Free tickets may be picked up from the MAXXI ticket office or downloaded from vivaticket.it (the transaction is subject to a service charge of €1.00) from Wednesday 11 October 2017.
