An unpublished collection by Chris Soal, one of the most influential South African artists on the contemporary scene.

The exhibition presents a series of site-specific artworks that intertwine sculpture, biology and ecology in a visual ecosystem in which everyday materials such as toothpicks, bottle caps, cement and sandpaper lose their original function and are transformed into new forms: cellular proliferations, geological stratifications, architectures of the living.

At the heart of the project is the concept of spillover: of materials, which become something else; of perception, which transcends boundaries and categories; of the imagination, which opens up from the inorganic to the organic.

Soal’s work is a laboratory in which formal rigour and poetic imagination give rise to a phenomenology of reuse, questioning models of consumption and inviting reflection on cycles of transformation and the interconnection between natural, cultural and perceptual systems.

The exhibition is accompanied by a monograph published by Silvana Editoriale, with texts by Giuliana Benassi, Cesare Biasini Selvaggi and Alessandro Romanini.
