From the star Asia Argento to Italian Gothic film. From the great auteurs of contemporary film such as Wim Wenders and the Italians Bellocchio, Scola, Vanzina, Virzì and Germi to the new web phenomena such as Maccio Capatonda, The Pills and The Jackal. From the historic faces of TV such as Enrico Ghezzi and Sabina Guzzanti to emerging stars such as the protagonists of Gomorra – The series through to pop legends such as Dylan Dog and Mazinga
Continuing in the wake of the successful Extra and CinemaXXI, this year too MAXXI is housing a number of the Special events of the Rome International Film Festival and is inaugurating Wired Next Cinema powered by Mazda, the space that the 9th edition of the festival is devoting to the new digital equipment that is modifying artistic expression.
Encounters with the public and screenings of feature-length films will be flanked by web series, pilots, previews, documentaries, video art and experimental film.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Writers, directors, scriptwriters and actors, will be meeting the public and paying tribute to the film divas such as Asia Argento, master such as Pietro Germi on the centenary of his birth and an enduring genre, Italian Gothic.
Classic film will be revitalised thanks to new restored versions of Boccaccio ’70 (De Sica, Fellini, Monicelli, Visconti, 1962, 200′) and Ricomincio da tre (Troisi, 1981, 109′).

Encounters, contests, workshops and previews illustrating how digital technology and the web have changed storytelling through images and sound. But also visual arts installations, science, new forms of comedy and new forms of music video.
Among others, MAXXI will host extablsihed filmmakers suchas Marco Bellocchio, Ettore Scola and Paolo Virzì, who will be meeting emerging figures such as Maccio Capatonda, Salvatore Esposito (Gomorra – The Series), The Pills and The Jackal. And also Enrico Vanzina, Zoro and the critical and never ordinary gaze of Enrico Ghezzi and Sabina Guzzanti. Above all there will be an evening with Wim Wenders and his documentary film The Salt of the Earth a tribute to and portrait of the photographer Sebastião Salgado.
Two prizes will also be awarded: for the best music video in the competition associated with the Subsonica single Lazzaro and for the best work presented in L’invasione degli Ultracorti, the first Italian competition for videos with a duration of under 15 seconds, made to measure for smart phones and digital platforms such as Vine and Instagram.
