more information

With over 75% of the population set to live in cities by 2050, Ricky Burdett investigates the impact of metropolises on society, the economy and the environment.

Using a new set of data that reveals their spatial, social and environmental DNA, Burdett proposes a new way of looking at cities and understanding their structural challenges and opportunities. Rome, for example, emerges as an extensive and layered urban artefact, marked by the same challenges as the world’s major metropolises. Yet, thanks to its unique DNA, it remains a liveable city with the capacity to be adapted, modified and improved.
