Opening YAP MAXXI 2014

Thursday 26 June, 20.00
MAXXI Piazza – admittance free

Funk, techno and house: the rhythm of dance music is about to transform the museum piazza into a surreal open-air disco on the stage.
The DJ and VJ sets by Hugo Sanchez and Manuel Savoia will be inaugurating the luminous portable theatre designed by studio orizzontale.

The winning project from the 4th edition of YAP MAXXI is preparing to welcome the museum public throughout the summer season, offering areas for relaxation and hosting the events of the PLAY with YAP programme: architecture, film, design, fashion and music events, all free and all focussing on the dialogue between culture, entertainment and free time.

20.00 | Dj-Set Hugo Sanchez

Nicknamed El Tremendizmo, Hugo Sanchez uses his decks and mixer to create impossible soundscapes from African, funk and esoteric electronic music. Born in Rome in 1974, he spent his adolescence mixing with cassette recorded from the radio and scratching with his parents’ LPs. Emerging from his bedroom he went on to play the historic Rome avant-garde electronic evening Agatha and gave rise to Coq Madame, the capital’s first queer evening with its incredibly bizarre and visionary music. Together with Rodion (gomma rec) he produces under the name Alien Alien and plays in various clubs in Italy and abroad.

21.30 | Vj-Set Manuel Savoia

Born in Ravenna, a film freak from a very young age, Manuel Savoia studied audio-visual and multi-media communications and with his first short ENMEB won the first edition of the Rome Film Festival (2006). Since 2004 he has worked as a director and editor, making shorts, music videos, live video and advertising and has specialised in the editing of cinema trailers. In parallel, since 2009 he has performed as a VJ and visual artist, mixing in real time images created ad hoc and stock material.
