A series of seminars devoted to the history of Italian photography from the Seventies to the present

On the occasion of the exhibition Extraordinary visions L’Italia ci guarda international lecturers, critics and researchers will be meeting the public to explore the fundamental episodes in the history of photography and to introduce the great masters who have borne testimony to and documented the history of Italy.

The Nineties were characterised above all by the establishment of a process of institutionalisation of photography: Walter Guadagnini, one of the most authoritative photographic historians and critics in Italy explains how this process corresponds to the arrival on the scene of a new generation of photographers characterised by an ambivalent relationship with the generation that emerged during the previous decade. On the one hand we saw a continued interest in the landscape, in particular the anthropized landscape, while on the other photographers felt a need to free themselves from the representational logics of classical photography and tackle different idioms within a fully international dimension, both in terms of the themes chosen and in working practices.
