A film by Silvio Soldini (Italy, 2018, 58’), dedicated to Raffaello Baldini whose dialect poems, read and recited by friends or by actors such as Ivano Marescotti and Gigio Alberti, brood over layers of almost Fellini-esque irony and mystery regarding nothingness and death.
Silvio Soldini skilfully assembles voices, verses, photos, super8 footage to construct the figure of this timid, sensational intellectual (a kind of Becket of the Romagnolo dialect), who for years was the chief cultural editor for Panorama, unceasingly cultivating in private verses of a captivating intelligence and musicality, capable of leaving the likes of Ronconi or Cavazzoni speechless.
Film at MAXXI is aFondazione Cinema per Roma/CityFest and Fondazione MAXXI coproduction.
