stadiums stories: designing the mythStadiums. Back to the futurewith Moira Valeri
Twelve young filmmakers, twelve films that for various reasons have attracted the attention of the festivals, the critics and the public: twelve stories that trace a contemporary portrait of Italian society. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Istituto Luce-Cinecittà, from 1 July though to 10 October, MAXXI will be hosting the film season XXI SECOLO curated by Luciano Sovena.
Not only screenings but also meetings with the recent years leading talents from Alessandro Rak to Guido Lombardi, from Alice Rohrwacher, Emma Dante to Saverio Costanzo and many others who, as well as showing their debut films, will be conversing with the public, live and without any form of mediation.

‘The search for an indefinable elsewhere is at the centre of our film.
A search that will perhaps never finish and that frequently obliges man
to seek refuge in his own solitude.”’
The outermost Rome suburbs act as the backdrop to three apparently separate stories subsequently linked by a fil rouge of drugs and criminality. Marco, a former prisoner, goes back to dealing cocaine for his old accomplices Glauco and Mauro; Faustino, Massimo and Federico divide their days between drugs and shenanigans; Sonia instead divides her time between university studies and working in Sergio’s gambling hall. A banal incident leads to the protagonists leaving a wake of fire, blood and violence behind them.
