The seminar with Alessandro Mendini, architect, designer, painter, writer and critic, is the third in the series that the museum, in collaboration with the Naples Metro, is presenting on the theme of the station designs that are changing the face of and mobility in the southern city that has long been a melting pot of tradition and innovation.
Mendini’s career has been based on the idea that the project is constructed through the union and sharing of ideas and personalities.
‘I’ve always worked with large groups,
From design to the organization of the professional studio,
from the curating of artistic events to the editing of periodicals.’
A consultant for Alessi since 1970, his work has bridged decades of Italian visual culture, encapsulating its changing styles and idioms, the passage from modernity to the avant-garde and through to the post-modern and the remixing of high and low cultures.
For the Naples Metro he is responsible for the design of the Salvator Rosa and Materdei stations and, together with Karim Rashid, the exterior of the Università station.
Introduced by
