The relationship between art and the natural landscape in the history of some of the world’s leading contemporary art parks
Whether they are the result of private collecting or conceived specifically as public spaces, these areas are true open air museums in which the works have a relationship with the nature that surrounds them and interact between themselves in new and unexpected ways: a form of experimentation that over the years has acquired increasing importance.
In the second of The Histories of Art series we shall be talking to Fabio Gori of the Collezione Gori – Fattoria di Celle, Pistoia, which houses one of the world’s most important collections of environmental art and which Giuliano Gori founded in the 1970s, and Cristiana Perrella, Director of Centro Pecci, Prato.
Here, artists of international standing have been invited to create site-specific works in the suggestive open-air spaces extending for around 45 hectares as well as in the historical buildings with a floor area of over 3,000 m2. Since 1982, the collection of around 80 installations has been open free to the public by appointment.
