Behind the scenes at the museum: the exhibition set-up becomes an opportunity to share the work with the public.

Milan Unit is a major archival project that brings together the entire body of work – photographic and more – produced by Ramak Fazel between 1994 and 2009, during his years in Milan, documenting the design and architecture scene. Negatives, prints, publications and objects form a vivid account of his practice and a crucial moment of transition between analogue and digital.

The project takes shape before the public’s eyes: the video gallery transforms into an open workspace, where the archive is presented in a ‘scattered’ state and is progressively reassembled in the run-up to the opening.

The public is invited to participate in the process: the organisation of the archive, the research and the exhibition design become part of the experience, alongside meetings with the artist and guests from the worlds of design and publishing.

From 29 May, the exhibition will be on display in its complete form. At its heart are themes such as the duration of images, error, and the methods of photograph production and circulation, in a journey spanning the history of design, publishing, and the 49 Capitols project.
