more information

A discreet but decisive gaze that spanned decades of contemporary art.

The focus is on enhancing Nanda Lanfranco’s archive, which has been on loan to MAXXI since 2024, the year of her death. The exhibition traces her work as a photographer, which remained out of the spotlight for a long time but was central to documenting key figures and exhibitions on the Italian and international art scene.

From her beginnings in Genoa in the 1970s, marked by her encounter with performance photography through her collaboration with the Samangallery, to her lasting friendship with Germano Celant, Lanfranco built an extraordinary archive in which her professional activity was intertwined with refined personal research. Her images have appeared in numerous specialist magazines, from Domus to Artforum, from Artpress to Il Giornale dell’Arte.
