A temporary installation in the Museum’s outdoor space, designed to offer relaxation, interaction and events during the summer months.

The programme dedicated to promoting young designers and enhancing the MAXXI square is back. The NXT 2026 programme involves five studios of young architects, invited every two years to propose a temporary architectural installation for the museum’s open space. The installation serves, on the one hand, as a space for meeting, relaxation and play, and on the other, as a venue for the museum’s packed summer programme of events.

The winning project for 2026 is Rubato, by the HPO group (Ferrara), an imposing pavilion that uses recycled materials and an aesthetic that is deliberately ‘construction site’-inspired to create an open and convertible structure, suitable for a variety of uses and activities. A site-specific soundscape by Agnese Menguzzato helps to define its spatial and relational character.
