more information

A screening dedicated to the first films and short films shot by the artist in the 1960s, between painting and underground cinema, between Rome and New York.

Schifano’s art breaks schemes and conventions, imprinting on canvas and then on film the revolutionary and controversial spirit of the years of the economic miracle, the triumph of Pop Art, and youth protest.

In his short films, rapid, black and white images flow by, often silent, showing without the pretence of narrative, moments of everyday life, meetings with friends, artists, writers, directors (Reflex, Photographer, Ferreri, Anna, Film), the new rituals of mass society (Souvenir), the war that for the first time entered homes through television (Vietnam). Over time, the encounter between Schifano and the moving image became more complex, and art became inseparable from the political and social sphere, as in the Satellite trilogy and the films Umano, non Umano and Trapianto, consunzione, morte di Franco Brocani.
