Between MAXXI and the imperial residence, Luca Vitone extends the physical and geographical imagery of the two places.

The exhibition Io, Villa Adriana, stems from Luca Vitone’s reflections on the relationship between himself and the landscape. The artist has explicitly conceived the project for the focus dedicated to him. On show at Villa Adriana are a number of works linked to the theme of the landscape, while at MAXXI, a series of large-format canvases painted by atmospheric agents in Emperor Hadrian’s residence at Tivoli.

With an explorer’s gait, Vitone traverses places and, thanks to his works, recounts them by expanding their imagery in both a physical and geographical sense and a symbolic and socio-historical one, thus uniting the exploratory practice with a more analytical and ironic one.

We advise visitors that traces of mould and fungi may be present in the room due to the technique and materials used in the work’s creation.
