Three events to trace back the history of sound experimentation in Italy from 1950 to 2000
In conjunction with When Sound Becomes Form, we will retrace the fundamental stages of Italian sound experimentation over the course of three events.
This is a 50 years-long story, where sound comes off the stave and looks at new electronic technologies giving shape to innovative artistic languages and enabling a manipulation of sound and an amplification of space itself, with a cross-fertilisation of cinema, art, choreography, literature, publishing and mass media.
At our third event we get to 1990, when Mario Sasso and Nicola Sani are awarded the Prix Ars Electronica in Linz for their video composition Footprinte. Marcello Aitiani exhibits his Nave di Luce, pioneering work that is a precursor of IT technologies. At the same time, Ida Gerosa presents Memorie d’acqua Fontana di Trevi in Rome, a multimedia performance with music and environment sounds by Luigi Ceccarelli.
It is during those years that Michelangelo Lupone adopts a cross-disciplinary approach that enables an integration of the music, scientific and technological sectors, marking an artistic journey that is increasingly targeted to an integrated use of the listening environment, leading to the birth of great musical installations based on invention technologies.
