An undisputed cult classic of its genre, Django (1966) inspired an entire generation of films, often with apocryphal titles.

In a remote village between the United States and Mexico, devastated by clashes between a racist sect led by Major Jackson and revolutionaries led by General Rodríguez, Django arrives, a war veteran seeking revenge for the murder of his wife. After defeating Jackson’s men and winning the trust of the revolutionaries, Django is betrayed. Seriously wounded, he decides to face his nemesis once and for all.

Thanks to this film, Italian actor Franco Nero gained international popularity, culminating in Tarantino’s recent tribute in his film Django Unchained.

Film Genres: Then and Now is a programme curated by Fabio Melelli that brings together timeless classics and more recent films, showing how genre cinema continually renews itself through distinctive authorial visions.
