Sergio Leone brings the lone gunfighter to the landscapes of Monument Valley, against the backdrop of a changing West.
The gunfighter Armonica arrives in Flagstone to meet Frank, but finds only his henchmen who try to kill him. Meanwhile, Frank and his other gunfighters exterminate the entire McBain family in Sweetwater: they are hired killers working for the railway magnate Morton, who wants to take over the land, destined to become the nerve centre of the new railway line.
Based on a story by Leone, Dario Argento and Bernardo Bertolucci, starring Charles Bronson, Claudia Cardinale and Henry Fonda, with music by Ennio Morricone.
Film Genres: Then and Now is a programme curated by Fabio Melelli that brings together timeless classics and more recent films, showing how genre cinema continually renews itself through distinctive authorial visions.
