Published to coincide with the exhibition at MAXXI, this volume is the first retrospective dedicated to Sveva Caetani (Rome, 1917 – Vernon, Canada, 1994), an artist and intellectual who traced a creative trajectory between Italy and Canada, transfigured in aesthetic and symbolic terms. Her work, in which biography and art merge, is distinguished by linguistic experimentation and the ability to combine vision, poetry and literary reflection. At the heart of the volume is Recapitulation, her most visionary work, recounted through multiple and complementary critical contributions. The catalogue concludes with a section dedicated to the themes of nature and family, featuring an unpublished work by Carlo Benvenuto and a selection of works by Houda Kabbaj, which ideally dialogue with the universe of Sveva Caetani.
