Architecture workshop

What’s involved?
The building is a gentle giant composed of long galleries, curving walls, great heights and stairs projecting out into the void like flying carpets. A space in which the sensorial perception is unique and enthralling. During the exploration/visit the children will discover the architecture and the materials it is made of. Through corporeal exercises and performance activities they will measure its dimensions and experience its forms. During the workshop they will recompose this spatial, tactile and emotive experience, reconstructing the plan of the museum with an assemblage of diverse materials.

MAXXI in action. Line, project, space

Architecture workshop

What does it involve?
Amidst curves of concrete and steel ribbons the children discover the museum architecture in an enthralling sensorial and corporeal experience. The MAXXI project is compared with those of the other competition finalists: through tracing paper and coloured chalks the children discover the fluid, dynamic lines of Zaha Hadid.

Geometries of the imagination

art workshop on the installations in the permanent collection

What’s involved?
What is an installation? How does it dialogue with the space and those who pass through it?
Starting our with the works in the MAXXI collection such as Maurizio Mochetti’s great “red rubes”, the “black trumpet” in PVC by Anish Kapoor and the geometric solids drawn by Sol Lewitt, the children explore the techniques that contemporary artists adopt to enter into a dynamic relationship with the public, while in the workshop they reinterpret the works through various techniques and materials.

MAXXI in action. Line, project, space

architecture workshop

What’s involved?
The children will explore Zaha Hadid’s project for MAXXI, her working methods and the spatial quality of the architecture through a visit/exploration of the museum and numerous workshop activities: sketches and models in paper, plastilene and metal and to finish a performance in which they themselves become architecture. From December to April the workshop will be enriched with an itinerary that takes in the exhibition Nature 04/UNStudio for discover the parametric architecture of this important Dutch architectural firm and its analogies with the MAXXI architecture.

Action/Installation

What’s involved?
From sculpture to installation, from drawing to video, contemporary artists choose diversified strategies to discuss our time. What relationship is there between the materials, the techniques and the forms chosen by the artist and the meaning of the work? In what way does the installation relate to MAXXI’s fluid spaces? And how does the spectator interact with the works of contemporary art? On the basis of direct experience, the children discover and experience first hand the installations in the museum galleries.
