Special Collections

New Media Art and Net Art
A section of the library’s collection is reserved for New Media Art and brings together exhibition catalogues, essays, monographs and specialist periodicals. In line with the museum’s exhibition policy, particular attention is paid to Net/Web art to which a collection is devoted that is unique in Italy and brings together the principal Italian and international publications in the sector, the brochures created to document the exhibitions of Net Art presented at MAXXI between 2004 and 2007 and essays on the artists, a specific bibliography and site with the works exhibited.

“Little Books” Collection
This collection features around 50 publications created specially for children by contemporary artists, architects and designers. Richly illustrated, the publications range from the books by Carla Accardi, Stefano Arienti and Luigi Veronesi for children below reading age, to the first books by Enzo Mari and Bruno Munari and the illustrated fables by Giosetta Fioroni, Chen Zhen and Julian Schnabel designed for older children.
Users may access the collection via the Online Collection, typing “Libri per l’infanzia” in the research pane.

Theses
The library possesses an interesting collection of theses on contemporary art, the original nucleus of which comes from the documentation of the “National Prize for the History and Criticism of Italian Contemporary Art”, instituted by the museum in 2006. Consultation and study of the collection is permitted and regulated in accordance with copyright legislation.
