Stories and counterstories. How images recount facts

Stories and counterstories. How images recount facts
exploratory visit to the exhibition Remembering Is Not Enough

What’s involved?
A visit focussing on works that recount historical facts through contemporary techniques and idioms: from Alfredo Jaar’s Infinite Cell that reproduces the cell in which Antonio Gramsci was locked to Gerhard Richter’s painting of bombed Dresden, from the ‘table-tombs’ of the lost Colombians of Doris Salcedo to the silhouettes of Kara Walker with their references to Black American slavery, through to the ‘bomb’ of the architect Bernard Khoury. After having discovered the stories and the meanings of the works, the students will analyse the means the strategies used by the artists to transmit them to the public, associating key works with the works observed and their own sensations.
