The Histories of Art, a series of seminars on the history of contemporary art from the last 50 years, organised around chronological and thematic issues, is returning to MAXXI.

Gallerists, curators and art critics meet the public to discuss the Neo-Avant-Gardes, Conceptualism and Arte Povera, Post-Modernism and the art of the new Millennium. ?Not simply lectures on contemporary art, but the stories by those protagonists who with extraordinary exhibitions have marked the history of Italian contemporary art.

Modernism and Postmodernism: rejection of the myth of modernity and attempt to rethink the present in historical terms. The objective of this encounter will be to analyse and verify the weight and significance of these two critical categories, among the most exploited and discussed, examining the works of the Italian art of the 1980s.

Angela Vettese art historian, critic and curator. President of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa and founder of the Faculty of Arts at IUAV in Venice, where since 2001 she has directed the CLASAV (Graduate Degree in Visual Art).
In 2009 she was the president of the International Jury of the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts. Since 1986 she has contributed to Il Sole 24 Ore’s Sunday supplement. Her publications include: Capire l’arte contemporanea, Turin 1996; Si fa con tutto. Il linguaggio dell’arte contemporanea, Bari 2010.
