A vivid portrait of Watergate’s residents, a place of political and social storms for half a century.
The Watergate complex was built by the Italian company Società Generale Immobiliare to the designs of the Italian architect Luigi Moretti, one of the most inventive and widely admired Italian rationalist architects of the fascist period. From its inauguration in 1965, the Watergate building was one of Washington’s most fashionable addresses, a refuge for the most powerful brokers of both political parties and the epicentre of a scandal that led to the downfall of a president.
In Watergate the writer and political consultant Joseph Rodota paints a vivid portrait of this iconic building and describes the dynamic figures that have inhabited it. The Watergate residents – an intriguing cast of politicians, journalists, socialites and spies – have been at the centre of American political storms for half a century
