An extraordinary photographer and poet able to recount the Italy of the ‘50s and ‘60s
While waiting for the great monographic exhibition to be held in March 2019, MAXXI and Gucci will preview the book dedicated to the work of Paolo Di Paolo, namely one of the main photographers of the intellectual magazine Il Mondo, il cui archivio è rimasto sconosciuto per oltre quarant’anni.
The book, conceived as an overview of the photographer’s work, is divided into sections showing the many interests of the author. Each theme is introduced by a text by a prominent figure in the field of culture and intellectuality delving into one of the crucial themes explored by Paolo di Paolo in his twenty years of work, either from a historical or a modern point of view: from Pier Paolo Pasolini to the parties organised in Roman palaces, from Tennessee Williams on the beach with his dog to Anna Magnani and her son, from Salvatore Quasimodo to Sofia Loren joking with Marcello Mastroianni at the Cinecittà studios, from Brigitte Bardot, Alberto Moravia and Federico Fellini to the sad faces of the people attending Palmiro Togliatti’s funeral.
