Performance.Marcello Maloberti. Cuore Mio

curated by Davide Mariani
Museum Hall – free entrance

During the Maria Lai. Tenendo per mano il sole exhibit, Ulassai, the artist’s birthplace, moves to the Museum.

Removing the sign from the entrance of Ulassai and bringing it to Rome, the artist, Marcello Maloberti, with a simple but effective gesture, metaphorically takes charge of the entire population through a solemn and rigorous performance characterised by a strong reference to Sardinia, which is further invoked by the clumps of earth at the base of the poles that support the sign.

That small town, clinging to the heels of the province of Ogliastra, no longer looks at the art of Maria Lai with suspicion but it stands there, together with her, to witness the deep bond between the artist and her roots, in a sort of declaration of love. It is no coincidence that Maloberti chose to call his action Cuore Mio, taking inspiration from a story by Salvatore Cambosu (Miele Amaro, 1954), a friend and mentor of Lai, the main character of which, Maria Pietra, turns into stone to save her loved child, Cuore Mio, from an eternal condemnation.

The performance will take place again in Ulassai, Piazza Barigau, on 21st September at 5:00 p.m.

A Fondazione Stazione dell’Arte and Fondazione di Sardegna project, within the “AR/S – Arte condivisa in Sardegna” and “Sentieri Contemporanei” joint project.
