Three meetings to study in depth the figure of Adriano Olivetti in relation to Italian architecture of the 20th century

The second cycle of the project aims to promote the Olivetti architectural culture as a key to the study, critical reflection, and the promotion of Italian architecture of the twentieth century, and the expression of specific cultural, political, and social issues.

During the second meeting Marida Talamona, Professor of the history of contemporary architecture and, since 2007, Director of the European master in history of architecture, explains how the UNRRA – United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration – played a crucial role in the early years of post-war reconstruction in Europe.

In 1946, as an executive structure of the UNRRA for residential construction, Casas, an autonomous homeless relief centre, was set up in Rome. The impulse given by Adriano Olivetti, vice president of the UNRRA Casas since 1951, is of fundamental importance. First in Matera, where he gave life to a true interdisciplinary laboratory, but also in many other projects including the rural village of Cutro, the residential community of San Basilio in Rome, and the unfinished village of Porto Conte in Alghero.
