A talk and a performance dedicated to one of the most revolutionary artists and directors in the history of film

On the occasion of the opening of Chantal Akerman. From the Other Side, the most extensive Italian retrospective following her death, theorists, curators and musicians meet to discuss the artist. Akerman’s work is an exploration of memory and in memory: the artist’s personal memory, the historical memory and that of the observers intertwine in an endless dialogue. The talk is an opportunity to retrace the extraordinary filmography that – from the great themes of female identity and deterritorialization to the contaminations between film, music and performance arts – has revolutionised the cinematic idiom and the spectatorial aesthetic.

The celebrated Franco-American cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, who features in many of Chantal Akerman’s films, will pay tribute to the director playing in a dialogue with the images of Saute ma ville (1968).

within the artapes, setting there will also be a preview of an extract from Trims (2016), the experimental feature film that Adam Roberts has made as homage to Chantal Akerman.
